Getting Back to 100%

The past year has been exciting. I’ve made headway in my career as a science communicator while managing a lab. It’s been a good year. The only bump in the road has been having gallstones. I really don’t recommend it. It has taken me almost a year to recover from having the gall bladder removed. I have had to adjust and learn what foods my body doesn’t digest well. It’s not hard to work out, I feel bloated and ill soon after a meal. In extreme cases, I need to find a toilet. It’s gross and uncomfortable.

However, I’m now confident about food and feeling much better. I’ve even managed to start getting back to exercising again and I will get to finishing my unfinished Chemistry365 post now that my energy levels are recovering back to what they used to be. At the moment I am currently getting over a mild dose of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. What the heck is that? I get dizzy spells where literally the room spins when sitting still. I now know what triggers it so I avoid those things. I also have exercises given to me by my physiotherapist to do if I have episodes. For the moment everything is under control. I even boarded a flight and flew 1600km to be at work for a week. Everything needs to be under control, the nearest doctor is 30km away!

Anyway, this is what happens to my eyes during an episode of vertigo.

Fun…not especially when lying still.

It is so frustrating to be hit with yet another medical condition just having nearly recovered from the last one. The silver lining is that this is manageable and not life threatening. Once I get this dealt with, Chemistry365 will be finished before this year is out. It is something I want to finish properly even if it is a year late. I am so disappointed that I wasn’t able to post in the last few months of 2011. I had, (and still do), have so much to say. I hope you can join me as I finish this project.
